4H YOUTH LLAMA SHAWL RAFFLE

This raffle is sponsored by Susan Leslie, SCLA member and Wilson Co. 4H llama leader, as a fundraiser for the group. The Llama Mamas Fiber to Fashion team at Kid n Ewe and Lamas Too dedicated the llama fiber shawl woven at the November 2012 event to the Wilson Co Llama 4H group. The Wilson Co Llama Group will sell raffle tickets for the llama shawl. Below are photos of the making of the shawl and the completed shawl.

Kid n Ewe and Lamas Too fiber festival was held in Boerne Nov. 9-11, 2012. The Fiber to Fashion event involves weaving a shawl in 3 to 4 hours. Each team brings a loom pre-warped with a Texas natural fiber yarn (llama, alpaca, mohair, etc). At 9:00am, three to four spinners of each team begin spinning roving or clouds to be the weft of the shawl. After some singles yarn has accumulated on bobbins, another person plies two singles to make a two-ply yarn. This yarn is then wound onto a shuttle bobbin and given to the weaver who weaves the shawl. Our shawl was finished by 12:30pm.

The SCLA does not contribute funds to 4H llama groups, but SCLA members are encouraged to donate to these groups as these young llama enthusiasts are the future of the llama community.

Raffle tickets may be purchased for $2 each or 3 for $5 from Wilson 4H Llamas.
Print as many raffle tickets as you want to buy, fill out your name and phone number on each ticket, cut on the dotted line, and send the bottom portion(s) with your check, payable to Wilson 4H Llamas, or cash to

Warp yarn was handspun in a random, barberpole sequence by Sharon and Annabell from llamas Kimmie (light brown), Inti (dark grey), Majic (champagne). Weft yarn spun at Kid n Ewe was also Majic's. Both the barberpole warp and Majic's clouds were dyed a mixture of red, yellow, and black for an autumn effect.
