Llamas and Alpacas Now Defined as Livestock in Texas On June 17th, Governor Perry signed HB 3300 into law. This bill adds llamas and alpacas to the definition of "livestock" in the Texas Agriculture Code. We owe a debt of gratitude to Rep. Larry Phillips (Dist. 62) who introduced the bill in the Legislature and to Senator Craig Estes (Dist. 30) who sponsored our bill in the Senate. Here's the Link to the bill's history page: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=80R&Bill=HB3330 Text of the enrolled version: H.B. No. 3300 AN ACT relating to classifying llamas, alpacas, and exotic livestock as livestock under the Agriculture Code. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 1.003(3), Agriculture Code, is amended to read as follows: (3) "Livestock" means cattle, horses, mules, asses, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, exotic livestock, and hogs, unless otherwise defined. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. Note: The bill did receive unanimous votes (of all members present) in both houses of the legislature, therefore it took effect immediately. 6/15/2007 |
